Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance and MSIG Asia (collectively known as MSIG), an international general insurance group providing a wide range of commercial and personal insurance solutions, have announced the appointment of Eric Schaap as Senior Vice President and Global Broker Engagement Manager.

With more than two decades of global experience in the insurance industry, Schaap has developed extensive expertise in broker management, risk maturity modeLling, claims systems, and analytics-led governance strategies.
Based in Singapore, Schaap will report to Keisuke Ema, General Manager of the International Business Department at Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance in Tokyo, for his global remit, and to Clemens Philippi, Chief Executive Officer of MSIG Asia, for his regional responsibilities.
In his new role, Schaap will focus on using MSIG’s analytical and operational capabilities to deepen engagement with broker partners and enhance overall business performance. He will also help establish a more consistent framework for collaboration to support sustainable growth across MSIG’s international operations.
A core objective of the role is to generate actionable analytics that identify business opportunities, reinforce key partnerships, and improve coordination between global, regional, and local teams. Schaap will also aim to connect and build on existing broker management practices already in place across various MSIG entities.
Throughout his career, Schaap has held leadership roles in Amsterdam, London, Hong Kong, and Singapore, where he has led analytics initiatives, developed market strategies aligned with regulatory changes, and built frameworks that improved both operational efficiency and revenue outcomes.
“Brokers are key strategic partners in our international growth journey, with global players driving about 50% of MSIG’s international business GWP,” added Ema.
“By establishing this new global role, we aim to build stronger, data-driven partnerships that align our collective strengths across markets and deliver greater value to our clients and stakeholders.”
