Legal & General Group plc (L&G), a financial services group providing insurance, investment management, and retirement solutions, has announced the appointment of Gareth Mee as Chief Executive Officer of Institutional Retirement, effective 1 December 2025.

Institutional Retirement is the Group’s largest division, overseeing a global annuity portfolio valued at approximately £96 billion as of HY25. The business is a provider in the UK bulk annuity market, with plans to deliver £50–65 billion in UK pension risk transfer transactions between 2024 and 2028.
Mee is currently Chief Investment Officer for Institutional Retirement. He joined Legal & General in 2022 as Chief Financial Officer of L&G Capital, where he was involved in the integration of the business with LGIM to form the Group’s Asset Management division. His work has included supporting the development of strategic partnerships and attracting third-party investment into the Group’s portfolio of direct investments.
Before joining Legal & General, Mee spent nearly twenty years at EY, where he was a Partner leading the Global Investment Advisory, UK Actuarial, and Sustainable Finance Consulting practices. He has also been active in the actuarial profession, completing his term as Chairman of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries’ Finance and Investment Board.
