Africa Specialty Risks (ASR), the pan-African and Middle East-focused re/insurance group, has appointed Elaine Mason as Head of Claims, based in London.

She will also design and implement a new talent strategy, including resourcing the function with best-in-class claims professionals. Mason will be responsible for claims across all of ASR’s underwriting platforms in Bermuda, Mauritius, and at Lloyd’s. She brings over forty years of claims experience to her role.
In the past, she spent almost two decades at ACE European Group, and held varying senior claims roles at Chubb. She has also sat on several Lloyd’s and Lloyd’s Market Association claims committees.
For the last fifteen years, Elaine has led Belvedere Mead, a claims consultancy she founded that provides claims expertise to specialty insurance organisations in the London Insurance Market.
Sokiri commented, “ASR is committed to having a best-in-class claims function, which is able to be a key differentiator for us in the market. As we build our product capabilities and geographic reach to access emerging markets, we need to ensure our claims function is a true asset to our business.
“Elaine has significant experience at handling technical claims, alongside strong operational knowledge, through a storied career, and I’m thrilled to welcome her to ASR.”
Mason added, “I am excited to be joining ASR as the organisation continues to grow and expand. The claims service is key to any insurance operation, and I am enthusiastic to be in a position to enhance and grow the ASR claims function across the geographies we operate in.
“I look forward to working with our underwriters, brokers and other business partners to ensure our clients and their businesses can recover speedily should they unfortunately need to call their insurance coverage.”
